Ryann O'Toole at CME Group Titleholders on practice tee using FlightScope X2

When a lady hits the ball as well as Ryann O'Toole, then it is worth taking notice.
Here at CME Group Titleholders on the practice tee we took Ryann through a few clubs in front of FlightScope X2. Here is what we saw:

Rico Ladies Open at Carnoustie - Spectators interviewed at Practice Tee with FlightScope X2 in use

During this week's Rico Ladies Open at Carnoustie we used 4 FlightScope X2 units on the practice tee as a service to players, coaches and caddies.

The response was amazing so far and FlightScope X2 certainly has claimed leadership which it rightly deserves.

During an interview with spectators the question was asked whether spectators would like to use say their own IPhone's to log into a practice tee, in order to learn more about the Tour Professional's swings and ball trajectories.

The flagship of launch monitors, FlightScope X2 was used on the practice tee at the recent British Open. Golf professionals could view their swing and shot data on an IPad, or IPhone in real time. Caddies and coaches alike viewed the data and the accuracy and portability of the FlightScope X2 proved to be very valuable.

Ball compression at 150mph

Over the years cameras have been used to capture a few images at launch and then calculating launch angle from the white pixels from the ball relative to an assumed ground level, calculating speed and then approximating spin through multiplying the detected movement between two image frames, with some multiple to get RPM.

One of the problems with image processing is that of light and more specifically how available the light is reflected from the ball. Another problem is what part of the ball is actually analyzed, i.e the leading edge, the trailing edge, the average pixels in the middle, and so on. Keeping that in mind the problem that faces image processing becomes more difficult when one realizes that the ball is busy reconstructing itself immediately after launch, which is a relatively unstable phase of the ball's flight.
